Network Engineer - Full Time Contractor
Northern Virginia
Looking for a highly motivated, self-starter, process-oriented and qualified professional to fill a Network Engineer position in the Herndon/Falls Church/Arlington, VA area. The candidate must possess a wide range of knowledge and skills in the field of network operations/engineering. In particular, the candidate must possess a strong working knowledge of networking protocols and transports. A degree in Informational Technology or related field and/or eight or more years of hands-on network operations/engineering are required.
As a Network Engineer you will be working to design, implement, and support a Network Operations Center from the ground up for a Department of Defense agency. The environment will be a Cisco/Juniper network that will need to support end-users/computers and a server farm for a production site, disaster recovery site, and test lab for a DoD environment. An active TS/SCI clearance or an inactive TS/SCI clearance where the SCI was granted within the past 2 years is required.
Primary Job Duties:
•Cooperate in research, design, implementation, and support for the environment
•Design, configure, and maintain routers, firewalls, SSL VPN, IDPs, NLBs, and switches
•Provide Cisco IOS and Juniper Junos command interface skills
•Monitors network infrastructure capacity, faults, and performance
•Prepare periodic reports of network status and analyze trends of utilization and errors
•Recommends resolution strategies accordance with fault, performance, or capacity-related items
•Replace failed hardware; work with vendors to isolate and resolve technical problems if necessary
•Proactively identify and design solutions to operating system issues
•Setup and manage DHCP and DNS
•Setup and monitor network gear using SNMP traps
•Monitor network hardware health using vendor supplied tools
•Use Remedy to document incidents, problems, requests, questions, and the corresponding resolutions
•Follow the Information Technology Infrastructure Library change management process for any and all system changes
•Write and maintain documentation for all network devices, services, and processes
•Work with the Security/Information Assurance team to participate in internal security assessment scans and mitigate any findings in accordance with Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guide
•Work closely on projects with other functions such as Security/Information Assurance, Web and Database Development and Project Management
•Support Government related meetings and working groups as required
•Strong analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve complex systems problems quickly with little technical guidance and develop automated corrective measures
•Ability to balance and prioritize work and multitask
•The candidate will enjoy working in a team environment that promotes sharing and creativity in the workplace
